Boler Mountain

boler

All Londoners know that Boler Mountain is the place to be when the snow falls, but did you know that becomes even cooler once the snow melts? Boler Mountain has year-round fun with their Mountain Biking & Fitness Trails and Treetop Adventure Park.

MOUNTAIN BIKE AND FITNESS TRAILS

Boler Mountain has 120 acres of property that is open through the spring and summer for mountain biking and fitness walking. The bike trails have a beginner and an advanced loop and these loops have been used for many local, provincial, and national races! Your family can either purchase day passes or season passes for biking or walking trails, rent bikes and/or helmets, and take lessons. They even offer a weekly summer camp for eight weeks of the summer.

Trails are currently open Monday and Tuesday from 10:00am to 4:00pm, Wednesday to Sunday from 9:00am to dusk. For July and August their hours will be 9:00am to dusk daily.

TREETOP ADVENTURE PARK

Behind Boler Mountain’s ski trails are Carolinian forests which are home to Boler’s latest adventure in the treetops! For those who seek a little thrill and love the outdoors, the Treetop Adventure Park has a lot to offer! Zipline through the forest, cross the rope courses and swinging bridges, do the Tarzan swing and play on the pirate net! This place has something for everyone with Junior, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced and a 1100ft Big Zip!

This is for kids roughly 8 years and older, up to adults. There are height and weight restrictions for both children and adults.

Open from now until November, you must make a reservation in advance for all individual and group visits. They are open Monday through Thursday for group bookings, Friday noon to dusk, Saturday, Sunday, and holidays from 9:00am to dusk. They also have birthday parties on their Junior Course!

SUGAR BUSH

It’s the last weekend for many of the sugar shacks in the London area. If you haven’t yet had your maple fix, get on out there and enjoy it. The maple season only happens once per year, but you can buy local maple products throughout the year at local markets and even many grocery stores. Be sure to either stock up or read the labels so that you’re supporting our fabulous local maple farms.

FAMILY FAVOURITES

Alvin and the Chipmunks: the Squeakquel is going to be playing at Silver City Theatre in Masonville at 11:00am this Saturday, March 28. Admission is only $2.99 per person, no matter your age! If Alvin is a little too squeaky for you, Silver City and most other local theatres are playing Cinderella, the new animated movie Home, The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, or Insurgent for the older kids. If you received a Cineplex Holiday gift card and it came with coupons, those coupons expire at the end of the month, so go use them while you can!

BOLER MOUNTAIN

The season is almost over at Boler Mountain, but weather permitting the slopes will be open this weekend for tubing from noon to 5:00pm Saturday and Sunday, for skiing or snowboarding from 9:00am to 9:00pm Saturday, 9:00am to 6:00pm Sunday. Go enjoy the snow before it’s gone!

ESCAPE ROOMS

Gift Guide: Passes

gift guide3

We have one more non-toy Gift Guide for you Mamas tired of contending with the pile of post-holiday ‘stuff’. This one is for Passes. Passes and memberships can be a great option for kids who love to do sports or go to fun recreational places that cost money. Kids don’t always understand that taking them to these fun places costs you money – sometimes LOTS of money. Not only are buying passes usually the economical way to go, they also allow you to say ‘Yes!’ more often. Here are some great places to buy passes for:

Swimming

Not just for the summer! London has a number of indoor pools to splash around in, including the newly renovated Canada Games Aquatic Centre, South London Community Pool, and Carling Heights Optimist Community Centre, and the three YMCA’s. Multi-swim passes make each visit cheaper than the regular drop-in rate.

Skating

Get a skating pass for the indoor arenas and get on the ice with your kids! You’re in Canada, if you haven’t built your backyard rink yet, then this is pretty much not optional ;)

Skiing/Snowboarding

Boler Mountain is the closest place to get on the slopes, but if you’re willing to travel, you can make day trips out further.

Movies

There are two options here, you can either get the pass (ahem, from Costco) that includes the child’s admission and snack or you could go the very economical way and get a $10 gift card which would give them 4 of the Family Favourite movies on Saturday’s at Silver City… or use on regular movie admission if you want to see newer movies, but don’t want the popcorn and candy.

Children’s Museum

Do you know they have a Grandparent Membership at the Children’s Museum? Two grandparents and unlimited grandchildren can drop in at the museum anytime. No grandparents in town? Not a problem, there are also memberships for families and groups.

Storybook Gardens

Storybook Gardens isn’t just for the summer! Members get in all spring/summer/fall for the warm weather Storybook fun and all winter for the skating trail.

Kidscape

Those grouchy, blah days with the kids always seem to strike when the money tree is a little picked over, don’t they? With a membership you can stop in at this Indoor Playground anytime. A short play, a long play, it doesn’t matter! Anytime you need to get out of the house and they need to burn off some energy, drop on in and play.

Adventures on Wonderland

For those of you at the other end of the city, the same benefits apply to AOW. They don’t have memberships, but you can get a gift certificate to be applied to their admission whenever you need to get out of the house.

Community Centres

London has some great community centres that have memberships and passes available for drop-in programs like open gym and rollerskating.
