The Grickle Grass Festival

grickle

This coming Saturday, May 30 is the 6th annual Grickle Grass Festival at the London Children’s Museum. In partnership with Growing Chefs! Ontario, this event is part fundraiser, part family day of fun! Are you interested in sustainable living, healthy living, art and music? This is your event.

DAYTIME

From 10:00am to 5:00pm the London Children’s Museum will be taken over, both inside and outside, for the festival. It will be a full day celebration of learning, focusing on sustainable living, healthy choices, environmentally friendly food and where it comes from, the importance of fitness, and taking care of the world around them. Bring the whole family for button making, garden planting, dance partying, cooking demos, and so much more!

ADMISSION is the regular Children’s Museum admission of $7 per person, $2 for babies 12-23 months.

EVENING

In the evening, the museum turns into a fully licensed music venue for the adults. Every floor of the museum will be filled with music and art for you to enjoy at your leisure. The evening event is a fundraiser for the daytime programming.

ADMISSION tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. For advanced tickets, purchase HERE.

Kids 1st Day

Kids-First-Day

Today is Kids 1st Day which is a chance to get out there with your little (or big!) ones and do some really fun things together all around the city for little to no cost! There are over 50 locations participating in Kids 1st Day with activities all across the city ranging from discounts on froyo at Kiwi Kraze and family swims at the YMCA to free mini golf at East Park and a treasure hunt through Eldon House. This is a GREAT opportunity to try out something new or different with your kids. Try some dance lessons, aikido, crafts or a new play space for free!

Activities are ongoing throughout the day, but not all activities run all day! Please check the time BEFORE you go to avoid disappointment!

HOW IT WORKS

Have a look at the MAP or list of activities by area in the city: NORTH, SOUTH, EAST, WEST or CENTRAL to plan where you want to go!

At your first location, pick up a Kids 1st Day Passport for each kid and have them get it signed at every stop you make.

Submit your passport after your THIRD stop (make sure it’s signed!) for a chance to win some really cool PRIZES.

When the day is done and you’re crashing at home, go online and fill out the SURVEY for another chance to win.

Get Outside the Box

GOB

When is the last time you and your family stepped outside the box? What box? The box that you live in, of course!

Get Outside the Box (GOB) is a local group that organizes outdoor hikes for parents and kids to connect while experiencing and exploring their environment.

The hikes are the first Sunday of the month, weather permitting. The location changes each time and are guided by GOB leaders. They organize hikes throughout the whole year, all seasons. What a great way to explore our beautiful city!

So, feel like getting outside the box? LIKE them on Facebook and stay tuned for the next great adventure!

Family Favourites at Silver City

download

The weather outside is getting rough and I am moving into hibernation mode. This time of year makes me start hunting for things to do indoors with my children while we wait for the snow to entice us back outside. If you’re like me, you are going to love this deal! Silver City at Masonville Shopping Centre has a great deal on every Saturday morning: Family Favourites!

THE DETAILS

For only $2.50 per person, you can treat your family to a classic or out-of-the-theatre family movie. The featured film can range from an older live action picture to a more recent animated film and everything in between. The show begins at 11:00am and you’ll want to be there early if it’s a more popular film.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT

The obvious reason is the price! Taking your whole family to the theatre is not something that is easily affordable for a lot of families, but when a family of four is only $10.00, that’s much more doable.

WHY YOUR KIDS WILL LOVE IT

The choice of movies is great. Most of the films that I have taken my family to were released when they were too young to see them the first time around. They also love seeing their favourites up on the big screen for a change!

COMING SOON

November and December are featuring some great shows:

November 15: How to Train Your Dragon 3D

November 22: Madagascar 3

November 29: The LEGO Movie

December 6: A Christmas Story

December 13: The Polar Express 3D

December 20: Fred Claus

Save me a seat, we’ll see you there!

BOO-seum at the London Children’s Museum

BOO-seum is coming to the London Children's Museum this Thursday!

The London Children’s Museum is having their annual Halloween party, BOO-seum! It is being held this Thursday, October 30th from 5:00 to 8:00pm.  This is an all ages event for the whole family!

There will be special Halloween decor throughout the entire museum and their 11 galleries, including a glow-in-the-dark room. Children can trick or treat in the Sifton Where You Live Gallery with the London Police Department, the London Fire Department, Canada Post and many more.

We all know how unpredictable Halloween night in London can be (remember the huge storm last year?), so this is a great opportunity to wear and show off those amazing costumes indoors where they will be seen and clean! There will be a costume contest with prizes to be awarded at the end of the night.

In addition to the usual adventures at the museum throughout the year, there will be spooktacular activities including decorating your own pumpkin, making applesauce, active Halloween games, and face painting. There will be special demonstrations with Spooky Science, the UWO paleontology department, and Kennedy’s Kridder’s, with his snakes, bugs and pig.

TICKETS are $10 per person, $5 for children under 12-23 months old, and free for babies under 12 months old. Tickets can be bought in advance by clicking HERE. FREE for Children’s Museum Members!

*please note that the museum will be CLOSED between 4-5pm on the day of the event to prepare the museum for the party.

It is going to be a great night!

StorySpook Village

StoryBook Gardens has had a spooky makeover!

Beginning tonight from 6:00-8:30pm and happening every evening until October 30, StoryBook Gardens is creating some hauntingly good fun. This is a great introduction to Halloween adventures in a safe and familiar environment or a warm up for the big day. Your kids will love the haunted castle! Dress them up in costumes and let them Trick or Treat with characters throughout the park at different stations. If weather permits, have some fun on the Leaping Lily Pad, amusement park rides and Super Slides!

ADMISSION to the event is $15 for children 12 months and over. Children under 12 months and adults are FREE with a paid child’s admission.

This annual event is one of the highlights of the week before Halloween. Don’t miss it!
