It is Mother’s Day weekend! And if you’ve had a peek at the weather, you’ll see Mother Nature is blessing us with some warmth, perfect for getting out and tackling spring projects! Or if you don’t feel like doing any work, try some of these ideas:

TO MARKET, TO MARKET

Both the Masonville Farmers’ Market and the Hyde Park Outdoor Market open for the season this weekend! Masonville opens Friday from 8:00am to 2:00pm and Hyde Park is open Saturday 9:00am to 4:00pm and Sunday 10:00am to 4:00pm.

LONDON SPORTS AND ACTIVITY EXPO

The BMO Centre London is hosting the London Sport and Activity Expo this Saturday, May 9 from 10:00am to 4:00pm. This FREE event for the whole family will include demonstrations and active participation in sports, games, drills, and exercise for everyone. HOME DEPOT AND LOWE’S WORKSHOPS

Send your partner and the kids to either Home Depot or Lowe’s this Saturday to create a special Mother’s Day gift for you or Grandma!  This Saturday, May 9 at 10:00am kids 4-12 years old can make a picket fence picture frame at Home Depot. Saturday at 10:00am at Lowe’s, kids from grades two to five can make a Mother’s Day Planter. Register in advance to ensure a spot!

STARS ON ICE

The Investors Group Stars on Ice 25th Anniversary Tour is coming to the Budweiser Gardens this Sunday, May 19 at 4:00pm. See this amazing show starring and choreographed by Kurt Browning and featuring all of your favourites like Tessa and Scott, Patrick Chan, Joannie Rochette, and Jeffrey Buttle, plus many more! March Break 2015

The March Break is finally here! For the vast majority of children and teens, the countdown probably began the first week in January, so let’s make it worth the wait. If you’re leaving our fine city for somewhere warm – enjoy yourself! If you’re sticking around London and your kids aren’t signed up for camps (if you’re scrambling, here is our list), here are some of the highlights of what is going on:

FLEETWAY

Fleetway is ready to celebrate the March Break all week with bowling from 9:00am to 6:00pm (extended to 2:00am on Friday), the rock wall from 11:00am to 8:00pm (extended to 11:30pm on Friday), and all day fun with glow-golf, billiards, and the Pladium Lite games room.

WESTMOUNT SHOPPING CENTRE

Westmount has daily fun for the family with the VOCPRI Charity Used Book Sale daily, Salthaven Wildlife Presentations on March 16, 17, and 20th, and The Fossil Guy on March 18 and 19. See the link for times and more information.

Baby, it’s cold outside. While we wait for that thermostat to get back to single (negative) digits, try to warm up with some of these fun activities!

COMMUNITY LIVING LONDON: NIGHT OF HEROES

Known as one of the best fundraisers of the whole year, the annual Night of Heroes fashion show pairs Community Living London clients with local heroes from London and area. Music, laughter, dancing, and an amazing silent auction round out this night of fun. The event is TONIGHT Thursday, February 26 at the London Convention Centre. The doors open and silent auction begins at 6:00pm, the fashion show starts at 7:00pm. Tickets are $50 each or reserve a table of ten for $500. For tickets, see HERE.

WOMEN’S WAREHOUSE SALE

The Women’s Warehouse Sale is back with the same great deals on women’s clothing: athletic wear, casual and lifestyle clothing. 40-60% all brand name clothing and accessories. BUDWEISER GARDENS

Two great games are happening at the Bud this weekend. The London Knights are playing the Guelph Storm Friday night at 7:30. The London Lightning are taking on Mississauga Power at 7:00pm on Saturday evening.

STORYBOOK GARDENS SKATING

It is the LAST WEEKEND to skate around the trail at Storybook Gardens. The skate trail and miniature play village are open Friday from 10:00am to 5:00pm, and Saturday from 10:00am to 8:00pm.. Storybook Gardens skate trail closes for the winter season on March 1st.

WALK TO REMEMBER

The Bereaved Families of Ontario are having their 18th annual Walk to Remember at Westmount Shopping Centre this Sunday, March 1. Registration is at 9:30am and the indoor walk is from 10:00am to 11:30am. There will be refreshments, prizes and draws for all participants. Family Day Activities

Family Day is in one week on Monday, February 16. Do you need something fun to do? If staying at home isn’t your thing, here is what is happening in London:

ADVENTURES ON WONDERLAND

AOW is open for Family Day from 10am to 8pm AND they’re having a special for Grandparents – bring your grandkids and get $1.50 off each admission!

CHILDREN’S MUSEUM

The London Children’s Museum is open specially for Family Day this year from 10am to 5pm with lots of big things happening! Come and celebrate by learning about animal families and Black History Month at the Museum!

STORYBOOK GARDENS

The castle is open from 10am to 5pm on Monday for skating, hot chocolate, roasting marshmallows, and even a sleigh ride! ** At the time of posting, the website is showing that this event is still happening. Due to the unfortunate fire and destruction of the barn last week, this may be cancelled.

SKATING

NO PUBLIC SKATING AT ARENAS with the exception of free Family Day Public Skating at Kinsmen Arena from 1:00 – 3:00 pm, Argyle Arena 4:00 – 6:00 pm and Stronach Arena 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Victoria Park and the Covent Garden Market will have skating hours during the day.

BOLER MOUNTAIN

Boler Mountain is extending their skiing and snowboarding hours on SUNDAY, February 15 – 9am to 9pm. Bring the family, stay up late!

SWIMMING

CGAC is open for regular programming until 3pm, with an additional rec swim from 1-3pm.

CHOCC pool is open ONLY from 1-3pm for a rec swim.

SLCP is open ONLY for a rec swim from 10-11:30am.

FLEETWAY

Fleetway is open 9am to 11pm on Family Day with all kinds of fun! Bowling, glow golf, rock climbing wall, Playdium, billiards, and of course – Dairy Queen!

PALASAD

Palasad is the place to be this Family Day! Enjoy half price classic pizzas all day – the perfect way to fuel your bowling, arcade, laser tag (south location only) or billiard games!

LASER QUEST

FREE FAMILY FUN DAY IN SPARTA

If you feel like taking a bit of a drive, head over to Sparta for lots of family fun with fortune telling, a scavenger hunt, the tea room and more!

MAKER FAMILY DAY

Is your child an aspiring techie? Bring them to the UnLab for a day of science and technology as you make a working flashlight together. $40 per family, please register in advance.

WINTERFEST SOUTH HURON 

South Huron is having it’s annual Family Day Winterfest! It starts with breakfast and ends with fireworks, all along the middle is great times for the whole family! Most activities are free, food is an additional charge.

FAMILY ZUMBA AT ELAN DANCE ARTS

Elan Dance Arts is offering FREE Zumba and Zumbini for families on Family Day! Zumbini is for parents and children 0-3 years old at 9:30am, Family Zumba for all ages at 10:30am and Family Fitness Boot Camp for all ages at 10:30am. Let them know you’re coming on Facebook!

 

PA Day Fun for January 16

PA DAY

This Friday is a PA Day for both the TVDSB and the LDCSB. If you are looking for activities to keep your children busy, here are a few things happening in London:

WHITE OAKS MALL

Mascot Mania is happening at White Oaks Mall from 12noon until 2:00pm this Friday. Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Jake the Neverland Pirate, Tinkerbell, one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Darth Vadar will be hanging out taking pictures and signing autographs at three separate locations throughout the mall.  Parents should visit the Information booth and fill out a ballot to win a private party with your favourite character courtesy of Magical Princess Parties.

LONDON CHILDREN’S MUSEUM

Pre-registration is required for the PA Day camp at the London Children’s Museum this Friday. The camp runs from 8:30am to 5:30am. This Friday’s theme is Boggling Optical Illusions! Let your kids challenge and trick their eyes through optical illusion activities and create their own optical illusion artwork. Programs are designed for children 3-12 years old. SKATING

If you’re looking for a free activity to burn off some of that crazy energy kids seem to accumulate through the day, head downtown to the Covent Garden Market from 8:00am to 7:00pm or to Victoria Park from 10:00am to 10:00pm with your skates!

MUSEUM LONDON

Museum London is also hosting a day camp from 8:30am to 4:30pm. If you have an aspiring artist in your family, this is the place for them to be! After learning about the history of Nature London and viewing unusual specimens, participants will make armatures upon which to build abstract figures or animals. They will also construct 3D animals out of sheets of corrugated cardboard. Register online HERE.

Pack up the tinsel, put away the wreaths, try not to twist your ankle as you wind your way through the maze of new toys…and if you need to escape it all, we have a few suggestions for you.

Disney Live! Mickey’s Music Festival 

Mickey Mouse and friends from The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Toy Story are going to rock the Bud Gardens this Sunday for two musical shows that will get you and your kids on your feet dancing! There is a show at 12:00 noon and a show at 3:00pm. Tickets range in price from $31.75 to $83.75.

Budweiser Gardens

The London Knights are playing this Friday at Bud Gardens against the Sarnia Sting. The game begins at 7:30pm.  The London Lightning are facing the Windsor Express at 7:00pm this Saturday night, January third.

Tim Hortons Free Skate

This is the last weekend for Tim Hortons Free Skates in London! There is one at Medway on Saturday and four free skates on Sunday at Silverwood, Earl Nichols, Carling, and Farquharson.  For times and more information, see HERE.

Kennedy’s Kridders at the London Children’s Museum

Spiders, scorpions, and snakes, oh my! Come the London Children’s Museum this Saturday, January 3 at 1:30pm for some up close and personal time with Matthew Kennedy and his creepy friends. Stick around for some museum fun like Ice Painting and DIY Snow Globes. The museum is open 10:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Boler Mountain

Boler Mountain is open this weekend for skiing, snowboarding and now tubing! Buy a day pass or use your season pass for even more fun. The hill is open for skiing and snowboarding from 9:00am to 10:00pm on Saturday and 9:00am to 7:00pm on Sunday. The Tubing Park is open 11:00am to 10:00pm on Saturday, 11:00am to 6:00pm on Sunday.

 

 

 

 

 

Jack Frost New Year’s Eve Family Hoopla

Kids love to celebrate big occasions, just like adults. New Year’s Eve is usually reserved for grown ups, but Storybook Gardens is giving them a great opportunity to get them involved in the fun with their Jack Frost New Year’s Eve Family Hoopla!

The party is happening in Storybook Gardens from 6:00pm to 9:00pm on December 31. The ice skating trail will be open as well as themed activities, campfire, crafts, snacks, treats, and more fun! The countdown to the New Year begins at 8:30pm. If you’re planning on skating, please make sure you bring helmets for the kids and check out the skating rules ahead of time!

The cost is $11 per person for members, $12 for non-members and $15 for non-residents. Children under 2 years old are free!

This is a City of London Spectrum program, so prior registration is required for everyone attending. If you have registered for Spectrum programs before and already have your Client ID and Account PIN, then you are all set to register online HERE. Whether you’re still feeling the holiday cheer or you would like to pack it in and move on, here are some ideas to keep you busy this weekend:

BUDWEISER GARDENS

London Lightning basketball is happening at the Budweiser Gardens this Saturday, December 27. They’re playing the Brampton A’s, tip off is at 7:00pm. Sunday afternoon, the London Knights take on the Windsor Spitfires at 2:00pm.

WILD KRATTS LIVE!

Wild Kratts, Live! are coming to the Centennial Hall this Saturday, December 27. The show is at 1:00pm.

SHREK, THE MUSICAL

Shrek is still running at the Grand Theatre! There are performances this weekend on Saturday at 1:00pm and 7:30pm, and Sunday at 1:00pm. Pack up the family and get your Ogre on.

SKATING

Tim Hortons free skates are happening at Earl Nichols, Stronach, Argyle, and Oakridge Arena’s this weekend. For dates and times, see HERE. For other arena times, see HERE.

LONDON CHILDREN’S MUSEUM

The Museum is open and full of fun for the kids. Mad Science, Kwanzaa, Fizzing Candy Canes and more! The doors are open between 10:00am and 5:00pm both Saturday and Sunday.

BOLER MOUNTAIN

Boler is open for skiing and snowboarding with a special Boxing Day sale! $25 for an all-day ticket until December 29th. The weather may feel a bit like spring, but the mountain has snow, so grab your skis (or rent from them!).

Holiday Activities

Sixteen days at home with all of the kids begins today! While most of us will have some holiday events at some point, there may still be a lot of down time to fill up and keep the kids busy. Here is what is open and when:

KIDSCAPE

Kidscape is open from Monday to Friday 9:30am to 6:00pm; Saturday & Sunday from 10:00am to 6:00pm.  They are running a day camp for $22/day on December 22, 23, 26, 27, 29, 30, 31, and January 2. For more information and to register, visit HERE.

ADVENTURES ON WONDERLAND

Adventures on Wonderland is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00am to 8:00pm and Sundays from 11:00am to 7:00pm.

December 24 and 30 they close at 4pm. AOW is CLOSED on December 25, 26, 31 and January 1.

LONDON AQUATICS

All three indoor city pools (Canada Games Aquatic Centre, South London Community Pool, Carling Heights Optimist Community Centre) are open over the holidays with added recreational swim times.

Note that all three pools close at 11:00am on December 24 and December 31 and are CLOSED on December 25, 26, and January 1. For a full schedule of swim times, see HERE.

PUBLIC SKATING

The city skating rinks are open and ready for you! For skating times and locations, see the full schedule HERE. For Tim Hortons free skate times and locations, see HERE.

Weather permitting, the FREE rink at the Covent Garden Market is open Monday to Thursday and Saturday from 8:00am to 6:00pm, Friday 8:00am to 7:00pm, and Sunday 11:00am to 4:00pm.

Victoria Park is also FREE and open from 10:00am to 10:00pm daily, closed between 5:30-6:30 for ice resurfacing.

STORYBOOK GARDENS

CHILDREN’S MUSEUM

The Children’s Museum is open for visiting and they are also hosting day camps for children 3 to 12 years old. Camps run from 8:30am to 5:30pm on December 22, 23, 29, 30, and January 2.

The Museum is closing early at 2:00pm on December 24 and January 31, and is CLOSED on December 25, 26, and January 1.  Celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa through art and exhibits. For full hours and schedule of events, see HERE.

Let’s all go to the movies! The Family Favourite movie at SilverCity this morning (December 20) at 11:00am is Fred Claus. There is no Family Favourite currently scheduled for December 27.

It’s finally here! The holidays are upon us, the kids are out of school and it’s time to kick back and relax! Time for family, friends, and good cheer.

FROZEN HOLIDAY ON ICE

The Middlesex-London Competitive Skating Association is holding a fundraiser this Saturday, December 20 beginning at 6:30pm. Come to meet the stars of Frozen, watch a Frozen-inspired skating performance, do a little shopping at the vendors, bid on the silent auction items, go for a skate, and so much more! BUDWEISER GARDENS ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE SKATE

Budweiser Gardens is holding it’s annual Open House Skate and Toy Drive this Sunday, December 21 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Come to the Bud with your toy or cash donations and enjoy skating on the big ice where the professionals skate! All cash and toy donations will go to the London Children’s Aid Society. Children under 12 must wear a helmet.

TIM HORTONS FREE SKATES

NUTCRACKER BALLET

Canada’s Ballet Jorgen is performing the classic Christmas tale of The Nutcracker this Sunday, December 21 at Centennial Hall. This is a rare opportunity to see these celebrated dancers right on our own city!

CANADIAN CELTIC CHOIR – AN ENGLISH CHRISTMAS

The Canadian Celtic Choir is performing their Christmas concert at the Aeolian Hall this Saturday, December 20 at both 2:00pm and 7:00pm. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $25 or at the door for $30.

SHREK THE MUSICAL

Shrek The Musical is still on stage at the Grand Theatre. The show has received such high praise that it’s been extended through the New Year to January 3. Tickets are still available in the balcony for this weekend’s performances. Don’t be afraid of sitting in the balcony – they are still great seats and you’ll be able to see everything perfectly! The shows happen Friday at 7:30pm, Saturday at 1:00pm and 7:30pm, and Sunday at 1:00pm. Enjoy the show!
