Keeping Kids Busy: Coloured Pasta

pasta

For most of us, we are about to start our second week of summer vacation. If you’re running out of things to do or you just need some new inspiration, we have a suggestion: let your kids play with their food! Kids of all ages love to play with food, play pretend – imagine their at a restaurant, raising their own kids, feeding an army. For the price of a bag of cheap, white spaghetti, you can keep your kids busy and have their minds running for at least as long as it takes you to drink your coffee, and maybe even long enough to check Instagram.

HOW TO DO IT

Get out 2-4 pots and add a few drops of food colouring into each pot, enough to make the water a vibrant colour when mixed. Bring each pot to a boil.

Split a bag of white spaghetti evenly between each pot.

Cook the pasta as instructed on the package.

Drain each pot separately and let the pasta cool.

Place into separate containers once cooled.

Hand over the pasta and let them go crazy!

SOME TIPS

Do this outside. Pasta smeared onto your floor is not fun to clean up.

Give them your mixing bowls, large utensils, pots, pans, and plastic dishes. Actual kitchen items are much easier to wash up than kid ones.

Change up the noodles, try lasagna or bowties.

Have them select the colours or see what happens when you mix different colours into the water.
