Canada Day is over and we are just getting summer vacation started. This weekend we are supposed to finally get some actual summer weather, so get outside and enjoy it! If you’re not able to entertain yourself, here are some other options to keep you entertained:

MEC LONDON CENTURY RIDE

This Sunday, July 5 is London’s second annual MEC Century Ride! The event begins and ends at Tobaggan Brewery on Richmond. Cyclists can choose either the 60K or 100K route along the quiet rural roads surrounding London. Register online by July 5 or on the day of the race beginning at 7:45am.

LONDON MAJORS

Saturday night at 7:30pm the London Majors are taking on Hamilton at the historic Labatt Park.

STORYBOOK GARDENS

There are two fun events at Storybook Gardens this weekend! Tomorrow, Friday, July 3rd, kids can come visit Pirate Captain Corbin with two magic shows in the afternoon. On Saturday, July 4th, Paddington Bear is visiting Storybook! Come out to meet him as you play in the park.

MOVIE TIME!

This weekend, there is a triple feature for older kids at the Mustang Drive-In beginning with either Jurassic World or Terminator Genisys. If you’re not into staying up late, check out Spymate, a movie about a chimpanzee for the Family Favourite movie at Silver City.

 

 

 

 

 

Canada Day in London

Tomorrow is the day when we all gush red and white and proudly wave our maple leafs. Canada Day brings out the best in our country and our communities. If your family is looking for some way to celebrate your true north, strong and free, here is what is happening in London:

LONDON CHILDREN’S MUSEUM

The Children’s Museum will have lots of great Canada Day activities like Canadian yoga, creating a Canadarm, and learning about basketball, our constellations, and Alexander Graham Bell.

PALASAD

Palasad North and South are celebrating Canada Day with 1/2 price classic pizza, 1/2 price jumbo wings, and loonie bowling games.

FANSHAWE PIONEER VILLAGE

Fanshawe is celebrating Dominion Day the way it was back on the first Dominion Day in 1867. Join them from 10:00am to 4:30pm.

STORYBOOK GARDENS

Come dressed in red and white for $1.50 off your admission!

FIREWORKS

BYRON SPORTS COMPLEX

The Byron Optimists are hosting their annual Canada celebration and fireworks. Gates open at 6:00pm, donations accepted.There will be music, face painting, speeches and fireworks, of course!

HARRIS PARK

Downtown comes alive with Harris Parks fireworks over the Thames River. This annual event is a classic.

SOUTH LONDON COMMUNITY CENTRE

Events begin at 2:00pm and end with fireworks. There will be entertainment, food, and lots of fun!

EAST LONDON OPTIMISTS

The Optimist Club of East London will be putting on a show at Argyle Arena. The party begins at 11:00am and continues into the night with a fireworks show.

GRAND BEND

What could be more beautiful than fireworks on the beach? Live bands and family-friendly entertainment will have you rocking on this Canada Day.

ST. THOMAS

Both St. Thomas and Port Stanley will be having Canada Day activities during the day, then head over to Pinafore Park for fireworks in the evening.

June

School is out today for all kids in the LDCSB and the TVDSB which means it’s time for some fun! Celebrate the end of school by getting out and having some fun!

STORYBOOK GARDENS GRAND OPENING

This weekend is the official Grand Opening of Gnorbert’s Garden at Storybook Gardens. Come to Storybook to explore their new urban farm and butterfly garden to learn about planting and be inspired to start your own at home! Get those little green thumbs growing into the earth young. Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions from the young and old.

INTERNATIONAL FOOD FESTIVAL

The London International Food Festival is this weekend in Victoria Park. Come downtown between 11:00am and 11:00pm on Friday, June 26, Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28 to enjoy the entertainment, the exhibitors and of course, the over 50 food booths to choose from. Come hungry!

OPA GREEK FESTIVAL

OPA! The Outdoor Greek Festival runs this Friday, June 26, Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28. Admission is free for everyone to come an enjoy live music, dancing, and of course the food! For the full schedule and all information, see HERE.

COMMUNITY CPR DAY

The City of London is hosting another Community CPR Day on June 27 and June 28. This is an opportunity for all to earn their CPR-A certification. Whether you have small children at home, have aging parents, or work with populations of people, CPR is a vital skill that all people would benefit from knowing. This is great on a resume for all teens and babysitters as well! Only $5 per person for the 2.5 hour clinic.  For dates and times and to register, see HERE.

MOVIE TIME

If you’re wanting to get out and see a movie this weekend to celebrate summer, there is a lot playing for kids! Saturday at 11:00am, Silver City Masonville has the classic Popeye for their Family Favourite Presentation. The fantastic animated film Inside Out is playing at the Mustang Drive-In on one side and Jurassic World on the other.

Looking for something special to do for Father’s Day weekend? Here are a few things happening around town:

WESTMOUNT SHOPPING CENTRE

Father’s Day Kids’ Club on Saturday, June 20 near Carlton Cards. Kids 3-12 years old can stop by between 1:00 to 3:00pm to make something special for Dad!

STORYBOOK GARDENS

Dads and Grandpas get into the park free on Sunday, June 21. Bring your water guns and get ready to get wet with lots of water balloon and water fun!

LONDON CHILDREN’S MUSEUM

This weekend, the London Children’s Museum has some GROSSOLOGY for you to share with Dad! On Sunday, June 21 all dad’s get in for free with their kids. Saturday and Sunday you can dissect a squid with the Biology Department from Western and then make a Father’s Day card for Dad with squid ink!

PALASAD

Dad’s can head over to Palasad all weekend for half price bowling, billiards, and laser tag when they come to play with their kids!

 

 

 

 

This Weekend in London

It’s the long weekend! Once upon a time, May 2-4 meant something entirely different than it does once you have kids. ;) So, your plans now may involve a lot more gardening than tanning on a beach, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun! Here is what is happening around town:

LONDON MAJORS

The London Majors are back in action at Labatt Memorial Park. Take your kids out to the ballpark and have some fun this Friday, May 15 for the Home Opener. The game begins at 7:35pm against the Hamilton Cardinals. Tickets are only $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and students.

STORYBOOK GARDENS

Storybook is open for the spring/summer season as of this Saturday, May 16! All amusement park rides are open and the park will be open daily for play. For hours and admission, see here.

FANSHAWE PIONEER VILLAGE

Fanshawe Pioneer Village opens for the season this weekend for it’s 56th season. It will be open Saturday from 10:00am to 4:30pm, admission is $7. Have a little historical fun this weekend!

PLAY ON! 4 ON 4 HOCKEY

Victoria Park and it’s surrounding streets will be host to the Play On! 4 on 4 hockey tournament this Saturday and Sunday. Registration is closed for the event, but spectators are welcome! Come cheer on your friends or see if you can spot the next hometown hero in action.

TOONIE SWIM

The May schedule for City of London Aquatics Toonie Swims is out and one is this weekend! Friday, May 15 from 7:15 until 9:00pm at the South London Community Pool. Admission is only $2.00 per person.

Pre-Teen Much Music Video Dance Party

Centennial Hall is hosting a Much Music Video Dance Party for all kids in grades 6 to 8 this Friday, May 15 from 7:00 to 11:00pm. Admission is $12 per student, photo ID is required (photo copy of health card or passport).

BOLER MOUNTAIN

Did you know that Boler is more than just a ski hill? Their Tree Top Adventure Park and Mountain Bike Trails are now open for the spring season. Reservations are recommended for the Tree Top Adventures and can be done online: http://www.bolermountain.com/treetop/

SPRAY PADS

The City of London Spray Pads (excluding Storybook Gardens) will be functional as of this Saturday morning at 9am!

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and whether you’re looking to treat your own mom to something special or you’re planning on conveniently texting this link to someone in your life for a little reminder, we are sure there will be something on this list for everyone.

WHAT TO DO

There are a number of places hosting specials for moms on Mother’s Day. Here are a few:

YOGA SHACK

Yoga Shack on Ann St is having family yoga at 2pm on Sunday. Kids 5+ welcome, $5 each with all proceeds going to Africa Yoga Project. They’re also having a sale on passes for Mother’s Day, on now until Sunday. Treat yourself or your mom!

MOKSHA YOGA

All current pass members are invited to bring their mom, step-mom, mother-in-law, or mom-figure with them to class on Sunday for free! One guest per Mokshie.

Moms and Grandma’s get into the park free on Mother’s Day! There will also be special Train Par-Tea with free lemonade served to passengers. Train tickets are $2/person (babies free).

EAST PARK GOLF GARDENS

East Park is open for Mother’s Day! They are offering mom’s a free round of mini-golf with a paid partner at the adult rate. Golf activities are open from 9:00am to dusk on Sunday.

LONDON CHILDREN’S MUSEUM

Mom’s get into the museum for free on Sunday! The Children’s Museum is open from 10:00am to 5:00pm on Sunday.

WHERE TO EAT

PALASAD

Mom’s eat free ALL WEEKEND (yes! starting today!) at Palasad. Kids must be there with you and someone has to order something more expensive than your meal. While you’re there, enter to win a Spa Day.

STAY AT HOME

Make Mother’s Day a stay-at-home, family day. Have a staycation in your own backyard or living room. Stay in your PJ’s, watch movies, snuggle, have a Wii marathon, take a long bath, have someone give you a manicure, and do whatever else you want to do with your kids – MOM gets to make all of the decisions, including making none of the decisions if that’s what suits you. Make sure everyone is aware of it the day before – no gifts needed, just their presence to make the day special. Or kick them out of the house and have the staycation all to yourself. It’s your day.

APRIL

The good news is: there’s no more snow in the forecast. The better news is: it’s almost the weekend. Here is what is happening in our fine city this weekend!

COMMUNITY CLEAN UP DAY

To finish off the week of Earth Day celebrations, London Clean and Green is hosting a Community Clean Up Day on Saturday, April 25. There are many locations across the city that you can join and pitch in! Pick up litter, plant trees, remove graffiti and have some fun. Bring the kids and get the whole family involved in making our city beautiful. If you can’t make it to one of the scheduled clean up locations, clean up your own neighbourhood a little bit. Just remember to stay safe and watch for sharp things.

TOONIE SWIM

This Friday, April 24 is one of the City of London’s three monthly toonie swims. Head over to Carling Heights Optimist Community Centre from 7:30 to 9:00pm with your family and pay only $2 per person for admission.

FOREST CITY ROAD RACE

The annual Forest City Road Race is this Sunday, April 26. There is still time to register for this event, although online registration ends tonight, April 23 at 6:00pm.  Bring the kids for the Kids Fun Run or challenge yourself with the 5K, 10K or half-marathon events. 100% of the proceeds raised at the FCRR go toward programs at Thames Valley Children’s Centre. If you aren’t going to the race, but have any business in the downtown or old north London areas on Sunday morning, be advised that there will be delays and detours.

STORYBOOK GARDENS

Storybook Gardens is open for the spring season with some fun new things for the kids! Check out the Peddle Car Track and Felix the Fox Archery from 11:00am to 3:00pm. The castle is open 10:00am to 5:00pm Saturdays and Sundays through April.

HOME DEPOT WORKSHOP

Have you been considering upgrading your flooring? The Home Depot is hosting a workshop this Sunday, April 26 at 1:00pm on installing laminate flooring. Learn how to cut and lay the flooring, what tools you will need, how to undercut door jams, and lots of useful tips on how to make flooring easier.

It’s a busy weekend at the Gardens! Friday night has the Tragically Hip making an appearance, Saturday you can see the Long Island Medium Theresa Caputo Live! and on Sunday the Harlem Globetrotters 2015 World Tour will be stopping in to wow and amaze your family. For all the details, see HERE.

SUPER ADOPTION DAY

This Saturday, April 18 the Western Fair District is hosting a Super Adoption Day for anyone interested in hearing about cat and dog adoption, helping or supporting the cause or in adopting some of the loving animals that they will have there to meet your family! 10:00am to 4:00pm in the Canada Building.

STORYBOOK GARDENS

Did you know that Storybook has opened up again? Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00am to 5:00pm only you can explore the park and between 11:00am and 3:00pm you can check out their new exhibits – the Peddle Car Track and Felix the Fox Archery.

ST THOMAS MOM TO MOM SPRING SALE

If you don’t mind the drive south, St Thomas Senior Centre will be home to the fourth annual Mom to Mom Spring Sale from 9:00 to 11:30am on Saturday, April 18.

Baby, it’s cold outside. While we wait for that thermostat to get back to single (negative) digits, try to warm up with some of these fun activities!

COMMUNITY LIVING LONDON: NIGHT OF HEROES

Known as one of the best fundraisers of the whole year, the annual Night of Heroes fashion show pairs Community Living London clients with local heroes from London and area. Music, laughter, dancing, and an amazing silent auction round out this night of fun. The event is TONIGHT Thursday, February 26 at the London Convention Centre. The doors open and silent auction begins at 6:00pm, the fashion show starts at 7:00pm. Tickets are $50 each or reserve a table of ten for $500. For tickets, see HERE.

WOMEN’S WAREHOUSE SALE

The Women’s Warehouse Sale is back with the same great deals on women’s clothing: athletic wear, casual and lifestyle clothing. 40-60% all brand name clothing and accessories. STORYBOOK GARDENS SKATING

It is the LAST WEEKEND to skate around the trail at Storybook Gardens. The skate trail and miniature play village are open Friday from 10:00am to 5:00pm, and Saturday from 10:00am to 8:00pm.. Storybook Gardens skate trail closes for the winter season on March 1st.

WALK TO REMEMBER

The Bereaved Families of Ontario are having their 18th annual Walk to Remember at Westmount Shopping Centre this Sunday, March 1. Registration is at 9:30am and the indoor walk is from 10:00am to 11:30am. There will be refreshments, prizes and draws for all participants.
