When Target Canada opened their doors two years ago, it was met with mixed reviews. While some were disappointed that the stock and prices were not on par with the American stores, others were simply thrilled to be able to shop somewhere other than Target’s controversial competitor, Walmart. There was a great deal of speculation as to why Target did not live up to the expectations (minimum wage being significantly higher here than in the USA, the Canadian dollar not being on par, taxes, etc.), and in the end Target announced early this year year that they would be closing all of their stores in Canada. They have been left with the job of liquidating all of their merchandise, taking down their trademark logos and rolling away the big red balls.
Clearance sales were also met with controversy: prices going up before being reduced and discounts not being as high as expected being the two biggest complaints. Despite this, the merchandise is trickling off the shelves and the stores are being cleared out slowly. With many stores across Canada and in Ontario closing this week, if you were planning on heading to the Target clearance sale, now is the time.
IF YOU GO…
There are two Target stores in London: Masonville Place and Westmount Shopping Centre.
Both stores have nearly all items marked down 30-50% off of the original price.
Target is open 8:00am to 10:00pm Monday through Saturday, 8:00am to 9:00pm on Sunday.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
Most of the groceries, toiletries, and household items that people could stock up on are gone or very picked over.
Home decor, kitchenware, clothing and accessories are more available, but stock is beginning to dwindle.
There are no returns or exchanges on any items purchased after the sale began. All purchases are final sale.
